My speech Kartell

Should computers replace pen and paper?

Kia ora my name is Kartell. And I strongly believe that computers should not replace pen and paper

Should computers replace pen and paper? I don't think computers should replace pen and paper because pen and paper is helping us with our writing skills. Owning computers is not always fair.   I don’t think it is fair when some children have computer and some don't. Just because they can’t afford them.

Some people say typing skills are now more relevant than handwriting but experts claim the move could damage a child's brain development.  a recent study from Indiana University, researchers conducted brain scans on five-year-olds before and after receiving different letter and learning tasks.
children who practiced writing letters by hand, the neural activity was more enhanced and 'than in those who had simply looked at letters. And, the brain’s so-called 'reading circuit' - a region of linked connections that become active when reading - was activated during handwriting, but not during typing

Has the use of pen and paper had its day?. I don’t think it has. There was a time when I was little in Mrs Cameron’s class.  We used to fill our books up with words.  Everyday we wrote words and more words until finally we were writing stories.  We were actual author's,  pen and paper is powerful when you are learning to write.

I now work on a chromebook for most of the day. I have improved my typing skills and learned a lot about typing. The thing that happened was that I had changed my writing medium from pen and paper to the computer. It was hard at first but then I got used to it.  I have noticed though, that my writing is not as tidy as it once was. How can this be a good thing.  Surely I need more practice writing.

In conclusion, computers may be a popular way to communicate in this day and age, but they are not available for everybody, they fail to provide the same brain stimulation as actual writing and for these reasons nothing will ever replace the pen and paper.

  1. Kia Ora Kartell,

I like the way you chose to write about should computers replace pen and paper. But I disagree with you, I actually think computers should replace pen and paper because it is faster and easier and I think it has made my learning way better.

Next time you could argue on something really popular or something like computers or tablets. But after all I like your work and I thought It was good. Also in writing I’m working on my biography on Bob Dylan.

  5. Kia Ora Kartell,

My name is Molly, I live on the West Coast. I go to a primary school called ‘Karoro.’ I really enjoyed reading your speech on paper and computers. Our class is a digital classroom so it is very nice to read about other people's opinions and what they think. Three classrooms out of seven at our school are digital classrooms.

Next time I think that you could re-read your writing, because some sentences didn’t start with capital letters. I really enjoyed seeing that you had backed up your information with statistics. Our classroom has recently been doing speeches. We had to write a speech about issues today that are happening around us.

At the start of the year we were all scared to start on chromebooks but it has developed very nicely. Chromebooks are very efficient and are easy to organize. Go check out my blog! http://karoromollyw.blogspot.co.nz/. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Hi molly

I'm Ashton from kawakawa primary school.I agree that we should use pencils pen's and paper because if we use laptops all the time we will lose intress in doing hand writting and spelling and could take out the full stop by the question mark.CHECK OUT MY BLOG http://kpsashtonn.blogspot.co.nz/
