Alazhays Speech

Gaming is more educational than sports.

Some people say gaming is bad for children and does nothing for their learning. Well I disagree.
My name is Alazhay and i strongly disagree that gaming is bad for children and does nothing for their learning.

Firstly, One of my reasons is because games teach you to Build, Drive and everything else. Gaming is not bad considering it helps with architecture if you play Minecraft. Gaming should be part of the school curriculum.

Secondly, Researched facts say Gaming helps you by improving critical thinking skills and reading comprehension as well as teaching you new eye coordination skill sets. Gaming stretches your mind so you think harder and use skills. Also a proven fact is because it relieves stress.

Thirdly, Gaming /is an awesome way to learn and earn money at the same time. If you're a youtuber you start getting paid for advertisements on your videos or when you hit 1,000 views on your uploads you get $8.00. Youtubing is a awesome activity. The #1 Highest ranked Youtuber in the world is PewDiePie with earnings of $14 million dollars a year. Now does this want to make you agree with me

Fourthly, Gaming teaches you coordination and you also have to multitask in gaming. In action games you have to use Accuracy and Strategy and Anticipation. Decision making and Problem is a big part of Games like Minecraft Story Mode. When you play games you develop faster reflexes.

So these are my reasons why I disagree about people thinking gaming is bad for children and does nothing for their learning. Thank you for listening to my speech.

  3. Dear Alazhay of Paihia School,

Hi it’s Tara from Karoro School.

I like how you had your facts for gaming and then gave reasoning behind them, I found your speech very persuading.

Next time though you might want to watch your punctuation. Like on the third paragraph the gaming doesn’t need a capital after the comma or in the fourth paragraph accuracy doesn’t need a capital.

I have really enjoyed reading your work!

  4. Kia ora Alazhay,

I am Greanne from South Island West Coast. I really enjoyed reading your persuasive writing. For writing we doing information reports, but I have done persuasive writing before and i can see that you had excellent sentence structure. I liked how you used PewDiePie in your work.

There are a few things you need to check with your speech. There are a few punctuation errors. It would be nice to know what scientist discovered that gaming improves critical thinking skills and reading comprehension as well as teaching you new eye coordination skill sets. And what websites you use.

  5. Kia Ora Alazhay,

My name is Poppy-blu I am from the West Coast, South Island. I really enjoyed reading your piece of writing and I can agree with you but at the same time I disagree. I agree that games can be educational but I don’t think sports are any less educational, but that’s my perspective.

Great writing but there are a few errors in your writing. There is a lowercase ‘i’ in the first paragraph and no full stop at the end of your fourth paragraph. Also in the fourth paragraph there is a / right next to ‘is’. Remember to proofread your writing.

Other than that this is a great piece of writing and you have made your point very well. Awesome work! :)

My name is Matthew. I live in Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island. My hobbies include things such as sport and hanging out with my friends. I would like argue my point of view to your speech about Gaming is more educational than sports.

First I would like to say I enjoyed reading your speech and thinking about your point of view. I agree that computer games can improve your hand-eye coordination but I also disagree because sports such as tennis, rugby and cricket etc also help increase . I would also like to point out that “gaming” has a higher chance of giving a teenager depression than any sports would. Teenagers can stay up to 5 am or longer playing video games which then deprives them of sleep. This leads to depression and exclusion in social activities.

Second gaming can exclude teenagers from social events like parties, hangouts, sport and more. Sport is the opposite of this and provides a social side after a match or game. Personally I’ve meet some of my great friends that I would have never meet if I didn’t play sport. People can meet friends online but it comes at a higher risk. When you're online you don’t get to see people's faces and who they really are. Some people you think are your “friends” could actually be paedophiles. With sport you generally meet your opposition or teammates in person. This is safer because you can see their real life figure and not an avatar.

These are my two main points to my side of the picture. Although I don’t agree with all your comments I do admire your willingness to speak about something that many people would just say was incorrect. I don’t believe gaming is all about the downsides, there are a lot of positives but I just don’t agree with the positives you have talked about.

    Regards

My name is Beau I live in town called Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island. I enjoy going hunting, fishing, playing Diep.io and playing soccer tennis. You have made four very good points on your speech but the one I want to disagree with the first paragraph. Some people play a lot of violence such as COD,GTA and battlefield 3. I believe that those games can have a bad influence on younger children. When you say “i’’ it needs to be a capital.
Today we did haiku poems which were originated in Japan.Haikus have five syllables on the first and last line and in the middle line has seven syllables. We’re also doing Infomation reports on statistical investigation. And checkout my wonderful Blog.

I actually like sport better than games because some games you are just sitting down and looking at a screen and you can become unfit. Some games are good because you are moving on the spot. by Wil 2016

I completely agree with you, not just because I hate sport, it also makes a lot of sense. :D
(Sports does not teach u anything but keeps u fit and healthy C:)

Something you could maybe do next time is say how sport is not educational?
Oh and o you watch PewDiePie? xD I do :D

I like your persuasive writing it’s good but there are a few little mistakes in there that you will need to fix up. I agree with some of your points but not all of them. I agree with the point where you say it improves your reflex skills. I can see that you have done a lot of research and you are a very good writer. My name is Jayden and I live in the west coast of the south island. I liked your writing but if it's completely different driving a car or a go kart in a game then in real life, I race go karts in real life and sometimes have a go on gran turismo as soon as you turn a little bit it spins up and everything is different. Also if you make youtube videos you need to make a fan base and that could take you months even years and you're better off to make a business or just do it for fun until you get big or unless you make a viral video. Gaming is also very unhealthy and it's better to race go karts in real life or drive cars in real life. On minecraft you can’t chop trees down with your hands and make a sturdy house without a foundation i know it's just a game but what if someone goes to enrol for a job and doesn't use a foundation he would probably get fired. Good work. If you would like to check out my blog here's the link=My blog

I disagree with your statement about gaming being better for you than sport. Also you said gaming was good for your hand eye coordination but sports such as rugby hockey and cricket would do the same . Maybe next time you could work on your proofreading of your work. My name is Josh, I got to Karoro School in Greymouth, West Coast, in the South Island of New Zealand. I agree with some of your points, but not all of them. I do agree with your point, one especially I agree with is that it can improve your reactions. I’ve played action/strategy games that have improved my reactions.

But the point that you can make money off YouTube is true, but not reliable as you may not get paid for making YouTube videos. But in that point is about making money from gaming, this is true I know. I know this because I have a cousin who earns money from being part of our international WOW (World Of Warcraft) or LOL (League Of Legends). I can’t remember which one it is but he does make money from playing one of those games. So some points are good ones, some aren’t as good because there are some flaws.

But I do agree that computer games can sometimes be more educational than school. I would also suggest that next time just check over your work if you didn’t. I say this because there was an I, but instead you wrote just the plain letter ‘i’ instead of a capital. In my class he have been doing some peace writing, perhaps you could take a look at mine! I enjoyed reading your piece of persuasive writing and seeing your point of view that gaming is more educational than sports. I liked your four statements as they didn’t repeat. Personally I play many sports and would disagree with your statements because I think sports are very educational and you learn lots from them.

On your work maybe you could just fix up some of your punctuation because it’s missing some things like capital letters and full stops. We haven’t been doing any persuasive writing this year. We have been learning to write haiku which is writing in sentences that have certain amounts of syllables in. If you want to check out my haiku click on this link. Copy and paste this into the search bar http://karoroalliev.blogspot.co.nz/ Look forward to seeing your work in the future.

  17. Hallo Alzahay

I would like to say that I read your writing and I liked how you argued with gaming is better than sports. I disagree because in sports you can gain strength, good coordination and fitness. And video games can cause cancer and brain damage.

At my school we do biographies you can see that on my or the classes website.

  18. Kia ora! My name is Matthew I go to karoro school. In class we are doing haikus, What is a Haiku you ask? Wait….you didn't ask that? “Wait Matthew, I DID ask that!” You exclaim. Good, anyway that just shows how crazy I am. A haiku is a poem with three lines, the first line has 5 syllables next has 7 syllables then the last has 5 syllables. Get it? I’ll give you an example:

    Space

    Space is peaceful,I
would love a chance just for me
    to go into space!

    It comes from japanese.

Back to the topic, I very strongly agree to your statement. Honestly!, I play video games all the time and I feel pretty smart (not really)and I also play hockey and I love them both equally the same (i'm lying) Video games Are very (extremely) fun! I also watch you sometimes (all the time) and i'm fine (wrong again!). Also, have you heard of jacksepticeye?(*cough* best youtuber *cough* subscribe *cough* or else *cough*) sorry about him.

Of course i'm not crazy I was just joking (not really please help me) as I was saying before I strongly agree and It is a very fine persuasive text.

Thank you for letting us see your side of gaming. My name is Ben and I go to Karoro School on the West Coast. You are a very persuasive writer, you could maybe use your persuasiveness to become a writer, or maybe even a lawyer. Even though I don’t agree with you, you’re still a pretty good writer. At my school we are doing some Haiku’s, if you don’t know what a Haiku is it is a type of poem where you have 5 syllables on the first line, 7 on the second line and 5 again on the third line. Thanks again for showing me your work.

    Cheers, Ben.

  46. Hi Alazhay

I’m Mitchell from Karoro School. I see you are learning about writing pieces of persuasive writing, I noticed that on paragraph 3, line 5 you state that gaming is scientifically proven to relieve stress, I strongly disagree because in my experience my brother goes through a lot of stress when he plays any kind of video games.

I do agree with where you are coming from when you say that Minecraft helps with architecture but in Minecraft things like weight and gravity are irrelevant and when building you don’t have to worry about foundations or framing.

I did like how you used time connectives. Even though I disagree with you, I still think that it is a very persuasive piece of writing and you should write more to get better. Be sure to come and have a look at my blog and my classes blog with the links below
